The article promotes the benefit of adding gardening to students' education and points out the numerous benefit of such program. I can relate and agree on author's observation of such program taking place. Learning about food and languages are the best way to be humble and learn about others culture in my point of view. Learning the language is a gesture of respect and equalizing the status of our language to the others, while taking the step is very inviting it is certainly not the most efficient way as language takes time to learn. Presenting/sharing food on the other hand is universal as we all eat as human been, learning/sampling other culture's food is again a very welcoming sign and promotes culture exchange just like how the children shared their eating customs in the article. I really like the idea as food growing and gardening is something that brings the children all over the world together, it is a universal practice that transcend language barriers. It definitely is also a great way to assist the language learning aspect because children learn by observation and making logical connection throughout the growing process.
Furthermore the article empathize on slowing down on the education. Planet growing is a process that requires time, patience and dedication. I think it is a great training for children growing up in a world where everything is rewarded for being faster and more efficient. This process puts in the idea that although results are not seen immediately, handwork and patience eventually will pay off. Children who remembers the process can go far in life using plant growing as a mental analogy. The connection with nature is also a valuable experience that many children growing up in the cities today do not many many experience in. I think the process will also encourage children to have a more sustainable point of view in food as they experience the hard work needed to be put into harvest. One of the child even mentions about the idea of buying local food to reduce energy wasted in transportation in the article. Overall I think gardening provide many positive aspects in children education and it should be encouraged more.
